What is your style defined as?
Chic, androgynous, statement making, colorful versus monochromatic, playful. I think it’s such a hybrid and a union of things. I really like to take whatever is trending right now and twist it and morph it and make it my own. I just take different elements for however I’m feeling and whatever I’m inspired by at the moment.
Who are your style icons?
What do you find inspiration from and what is your inspiration?
Definitely Instagram and Pinterest. I also honestly find a lot of inspiration from my friends and my coworkers, just working in retail at Buffalo Exchange I just am constantly being inspired to try different looks and to combine different things. I also try different trends maybe I normally wouldn’t try. I also love magazines, I really love Nylon magazines.
Where do you shop?
I shop probably mainly at Buffalo Exchange, because of the great price point and there’s also such a wide audience of different clothes to get things from. Other places are Urban Outfitters, Free People, Dolls Kill, shopping locally, and thrifting occasionally.
What do you look for when shopping?
Honestly, I think I look for pieces that stand out. I look for attention grabbing colors or patterns, things that I can mix together. I love looking for pieces that I’m excited about, if you’re not excited about what you’re buying or what you’re wearing then what’s the point? I love to look for pieces that I can layer within my wardrobe, statement one-of-a-kind pieces (embroidery, huipil, turquoise), classic pieces (classic button-up).
What are your top pieces in your wardrobe?
One of my top pieces ever is a turquoise flower cuff, it is my pride and joy. I would also say my pair of turquoise earrings in the shape of a moon, a button-up, and a good pair of boots.
What are your signature pieces?
I would say definitely a huipil, it’s an indigenous piece that is made completely by hand in either Guatemala or South Mexico and I think they’re so beautiful and unique. I would also say jewelry of all kinds. I love all silver, turquoise, onyx, bold chunky pieces, bolo ties. I also think my hair, I love wearing it natural and slicking it down.
How can readers get your look?
Honestly, just follow your gut and follow your feelings. That’s really how I dress just following how I’m feeling for the day, it’s about an expression and is a form of art. My look also is about individuality, it’s about embracing who you are and channeling different forms of expression day to day. Be open to shopping at places that can help you mix and achieve different looks in the same look (leather boots with checkered pants).
